Senior Interior Designer (Maternity Cover)

Gunter & Co is seeking a senior interior designer for a period of maternity cover to join its team in London.

Gunter & Co, an established design studio with a team of twenty, are currently offering an outstanding opportunity for a senior interior architect/designer to join its team in London for a maternity cover from 1 November 2025 till 1 July 2026 (nine months – with the option to extend by mutual agreement).

The right candidate would have a minimum of six to eight years’ experience in high-end residential design.

You will be working from our Battersea studio for the first six months after which there will be a hybrid of three days working in the office and two days working from home.

The first month of your employment would cover a thorough hand-over with the senior designer you would be covering for, ensuring deep knowledge of the projects, team and clients concerned.

  • Photoshop

  • Outlook (for email and diary management including calendar function)

  • Microsoft Office including Excel, Word

  • Photoshop and InDesign

  • excellent level of written and spoken English is key

Responsibilities

You will be working on four to five projects from start to completion including all interior architectural research, concept designs and interior architectural presentations, overseeing a team of two mid-weight designers and one junior designer.

You will be carrying out the following core tasks:

  • project forecasting and resource management across five projects

  • creative vision setting alongside design director team – creating mood boards and concept designs

  • overseeing a team of two mid-weight and one junior designer delivering four to five projects

  • overseeing your team researching and creating presentation for all interior architectural fixtures and finishes

  • overseeing drawings in CAD for RCP, GA’s, elevations and room plans including sections, construction details and other technical design aspects, produce and issue full technical packs including CAD work and detailed specification packs

  • overseeing drawings for joinery designs as well as full rooms including panelling, windows and full interior architectural detailing – this is a key skill

  • presenting to clients, sometimes together with associate design director and/or founder

  • carrying out site visits to oversee construction progress

  • FF&E research, presentations and bespoke designs as well as pricing and obtaining procurement information

If you would like to be considered for this position, you must have the following qualities:

  • have a modern design outlook, we’re looking for someone with a fun and creative design outlook and original ideas – our clients are looking for a luxurious eclectic style

  • must be a creative, passionate and diligent interior designer with a keen eye for detail and a thorough way of working, being organised is a key part of the job

  • be technically-minded – do you have a very thorough understanding about how high end resi homes are built? Our senior team is often amongst the most technically skilled people during a site visit, and it’s a standard we’re incredibly proud of

  • professional communication skills to keep suppliers in check and maintain procedures to keep suppliers and clients accountable for their commitments – good organisation and friendly communication skills are very important. If you’re shy of picking up the phone and chasing people, this is not the job for you – our senior team is equipped with designers who are confident communicators and are able to negotiate tricky conversations

  • having a good capacity to think on your feet and be commercially minded

  • have good math skills

  • good knowledge of suppliers and experience in sourcing interior architectural hard finishes and fixtures from a wide spectrum beyond Chelsea Harbour

  • ideally formal training in architecture or interior architecture, this is not a strict requirement

  • able to organise workloads for a small team of designers, oversee work of mids and junior designers, prioritise tasks and ensure projects deliverables are met be open to working as a team, we all do random ad-hoc tasks like writing Christmas cards once in a while

Perks of the job:

  • 25 days holiday and bank holidays adapted pro-rata to your fixed term contract

  • additional Christmas holidays (two to three days) at the director’s discretion

  • two early leaves per quarter (two hours earlier than normal EOD)

  • flexible working hours; you can start between 8 and 9.30am and finish respectively, e.g. if you start at 8am you can finish at 5pm, if you start at 9am you finish at 6pm

Salary guide for a senior designer is £50,000 to £55,000 depending on experience.
